GRITTY ARAB ELECTRONICS FROM THE LEVANT
Four musicians from different Arab regions are brought together through their shared (Palestinian) background with one mission: to make socially conscious, energetic and festive dance music. The base of their grimy underground-sound is debka, a genre of Middle Eastern street music, which is treated with synthesizers, deep electronic beats, hypnotizing guitar riffs and heavy vocals and rap, which is done in both English and Arabic. Shamstep (which doubles as the title of their debut record) is what they call their Arab-electronica, which is a reference to both dubstep and the region Bilal Al-Sham, the things that tie the band together. After several successful tours through England, the foursome have made a home out of London. This has become the base from where they sonically and ideologically shake up the world.
