Contemporary mystical tropical sound rooted in Indonesian tradition at Amsterdam Roots Festival

The musicians of Nusantara Beat, a six-member band from Amsterdam, have a strong connection to their Indonesian roots. They draw inspiration from musical styles such as Pop Sunda and Dangdut from the 1970s, creating a contemporary mystical tropical sound. Their music takes the audience on a journey to the land of their ancestors. Nusantara Beat honours traditional sounds, but at the same time lifts the music into the future. Hypnotic melodies and soaring, mesmerising harmonies, reflecting the traditions of gamelan and krontjong, but also incorporating elements of Indonesian psychedelic rock and Indian Bollywood. The band members hail from Amsterdam's vibrant music scene and have played in well-known bands such as Jungle By Night, Altin Gun, Pom, EUT, The Mysterons, Maple and Surf Aid Kit.
