Facing the current financial challenges, we have joined forces and are going back to the core of the festival: the open-air programme in the Oosterpark. Here, as of old, we will present a sparkling programme full of music, circus, dance, theatre, children’s programmes and various workshops. Of course, we close the festival with the legendary afterparty by Native Moons with Lucas Benjamin.
This year’s festival line-up once again features an impressive and inspiring mix of artists from different corners of the world. We can already reveal a few gems from the programming. The main stage will groove to the Ghanaian high-life music of Florence Adooni. Her powerful voice and authentic charisma have already won many hearts in Ghana and now she will perform in the Netherlands for the first time. Or how about Ak Dan Gwang Chil from South Korea? They play traditional Korean music as if it were heavy metal, with the catchiness of k-pop. On the circus stage, Van-Kim and Cyrill from Yin-Zéro will combine dervish whirling with juggling in a hypnotic way. In the coming weeks, we will introduce you step by step to all the artists who will be performing at Oosterpark on 25 June.
Amsterdam Roots Festival has managed to reach a very diverse audience over the past 40 years. However, we are aware that the programmes have not always been accessible to visitors with disabilities. This year, we will therefore collaborate with the HandicapNL foundation to make the festival more physically accessible and inclusive. The festival grounds will be wheelchair-friendly and there will be low-incentive areas, among other things.
