Amsterdam Roots Festival offers a stage to artists who explore their roots and tell their story through various art forms. Stories that move, stimulate and sometimes confront. Important stories that help us define ourselves.
To visualize the super-diverse roots of Dutch people, Amsterdam Roots Festival launched Rootszoekers last year, a project at the intersection of pedigree research and interdisciplinary storytelling. Three young makers went into the archives of the MEB (Center for Family History) in search of special stories in their family history. In cooperation with Pakhuis de Zwijger, Amsterdam Roots is opening the festival this year with a program full of inspiring stories, conversations and performances about identity, rooting and feeling at home. On this evening, we are proud to share the first results of the Rootszoekers project with you. Root seekers Charo Duràn, Fiona Kelatow and Rachel Rumai Diaz present short quirky performances based on their research at the MEB. There will also be a discussion about this search. (Read more about this route/ or event? here) Writer and journalist Munganyende Hélène Christelle and dancer Junadry Leocaria made a surprising creation especially for this evening. Nicole Terborg (journalist and presenter at VPRO, among others) moderates/ will lead? this evening’s events.
